Gauze are probably my favorite Japanese hardcore band. They originated back in the very early 80's, and according to their biography: "The original plan according to Shin the bass player was to play as fast as possible. They attempted to give the impression of playing fast without actually playing fast.". What this means, if anything, is a mystery to me, but it totally works. Their second album Equalizing Distort (a name I find both nonsensical and tough as fuck at the same time) was released in 1986, check it out.
