Salem's Pot - Watch Me Kill You/Run The Night (2013)
Behold, a horrifying cassette tape! Two sides and as many tracks lurk within oozing with evil psychedelia and lumbering riffs, maximum volume levels required. A miserable voice beckons you from beyond this mortal plane! Oh wait, it's just the tape. False alarm. Check it out for yourself for your named price that is probably zero you cheap piece of shit.
First things first. Let's just take a moment to sit back and ponder the extraordinary volume of work these fine gentlemen have managed to produce in the past year. In 2012 Ice Dragon managed to release three full length records and two split records. Some reactions to this might include: "What?" or "Holy moly.". Both of these responses are both acceptable and correct.
Anyway, right now we are looking at the first output of the glorious year 2013 from these guys. The Soul's Midnight is a supremely druggy doom fest that wanders from spaced out vibrations to megabang riffs with vocals echoing proudly in the distance. This is pretty neat.
You can get the record for however many dollars you wish to pay at their bandcamp page.
Easily my favorite record of 2010 this has to be at least the third time I've posted this album here. But I still feel compelled to do so every so often, essentially whenever I'm confronted and awestruck by the sheer crushing force of this shit. From the straight-forward blunt force riffing of the initial track Hail to the shredding black metal influence that eventually gives way to even bleaker doom riffs of Satan. The positively monumental riffing of Worship to the dark and noisey finale in Doom. This shit is good and if it was a physical entity it would beat up your whole family and all your pets at the same time with a cudgel. This is probably the heaviest record of all time and if you expose your children to at a young enough age I can almost guarantee they will develop magickal talents and psychic abilities beyond your wildest fathomings. Embrace the riff lest it be your ruin.
Double feature because I've been pretty juiced on Melvins lately, a phenominon that will come to a raging head September 6th when they play with Big Business. Much like said performance, this album is "Melvins Lite" which essentially just means it's King Buzzo, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn. No business dudes. No double drum kit.
It took my awhile to formulate just how I felt about this record. There are a couple tracks that I'll come back to, but so me of them are pretty snoozeworthy. Not enough heavy for my rotten desensitized pallete but plenty of badassery to be had in the riff department.
Guess what, you miserable cretins? Snail has a new album and boy howdy what a new one it is. It's good. It's very cool. It's Snail. They are from Seattle. It's called Terminus. It's a melodic, enjoyable doomy metaly album that still wields a mighty riff with authority. While I'll admit the last couple tracks are a kinda snoozers until Terminus takes it up a notch to end it, the album as a whole is a good time.
Next guess: Guess what you have to do to get this album? Go to their bandcamp page and pay them $0.00 like a total piece of shit. Deal with it. Or give them your money.
Here is some cool stoner/doom/whathaveyou from Portland, OR. Very cool riffs, album art that reminds me Orange Goblin if they were even more into weed than they already are, which is never a bad thing. You can get their three song EP/demo from their bandcamp page for absolutely free, or you can pay them for it. Choose your own destiny. Normally I would say something about how I don't really like Portland all that much, but I won't because I'm lazy and don't feel like putting together any original thoughts right now.
This blog will probably die soon, though something more interesting and worthwhile will hopefully erupt screaming from its corpse soon enough.
I like this band, and this album isn't bad at all but their butt rock levels are at an all time high which will definitely kill some interest. Unless you like butt rock. Rock on butt rockers.
I showed someone this band and they got really excited. Great fuzzed out rock from Sweden. Their album Gravity X is also worth noting and I probably would have got more cred points if I posted that one instead.
Concluding the Orange Goblin posting spree we have the split they did with Electric Wizard. The first track, Electric Wizard's seventeen minute Chrono.Naut, is a two-parter kicking things off with some serious business riffing before sliding gently into its spacey conclusion. Orange Goblin follows with two tracks, the first being Nuclear Guru (a mediocre track I don't have feelings for either way), the second being a cover of Black Sabbath's Hand of Doom that's actually pretty awesome. Not a must-have release by any stretch, but still a solid listen.
Actually, I think this one has usurped Planet Ten as my second favorite Orange Goblin record, so I retract my previous statement. Plus this one starts with a motorcycle revving. SICK.
Orange Goblin - Frequencies From Planet Ten (1997)
Here's another one (my second favorite), if you liked the previously posted record. I'm not going to bother describing this album or this band because I'm tired and I'm lazy and I'm angry.
Just trying to power through the rest of this stupid week so I can go on vacation this weekend. Arguably my favorite Orange Goblin record, this is definitely helping.
I probably posted this album back when it came out. Here it is again because I recently blew the dust off it and it's still a fun record with some huge riffs. I think the album art is a good litmus test to see if you'll like the music.
Torche is one of those bands that I warmed to very, very slowly. While I really like Floor and I love the riffage that Torche brings to the table, for some reason I never really enjoyed them all that much. Until I heard this one. I can't really explain it, but if you enjoy the genre and have written them off maybe you should give this one as listen as well. It truly has the Baizley touch as it were, the mere presence of his artwork seeming to elevate most albums he gets involved with.
Note: For some reason the first song really annoys the shit out of me, so I recommend skipping it. Warship sucks and if you like it you suck. I've considered deleting it all together but my iTunes OCD would keep me up at night if I did.
Attend closely, dear reader, lest a tendril of another's shadow impede your view. You have stumbled into my internet basement. I have really stupid taste in music and I post whatever I want. The format of this blog is none of your business. It's really become more of a stream of conciousness type affair over the years, so you're just going to have to deal with it I'm afraid.
