Chicago Blues

Muddy Waters - Chicago Blues (1994)

Remember when I said it was way too hot? Well guess what? It's fucking hotter now. I've got the it's hot as fuck and I want to eat dinner but don't want to cook it because having a box emitting 400 degree heat into my home sounds like some sort of torture. It's too hot to pass on any sort of information. You don't care anyway. You just use me for my links. But you see that face on that album cover? That is a man attuned with the riff. Pay attention.

Sweet Home Chicago.

Consulting The Bones

Witchden - Consulting The Bones (2012)

Any band that labels themselves as doom blues is bound to get my attention for at least a brief moment. A visceral feel and tortured vocals definitely bring Eyehategod to mind, but that's hardly a bad thing. Witchden doesn't make my guts hurt like Eyehategod does, though. Blues heavy riffs that tend to plod along at a hypnotic pace make me feel more inclined to nod along rather than barf on my own shirt or whatever people do at Eyehategod shows. I've been to one, I don't know.

The Big Come Up

The Black Keys - The Big Come Up (2002)

Their new album had me thinking about when they played the blues and I liked them. Now they mostly just play indie rock and I tolerate them. I feel like their sound is a bit thin on this album but I still enjoy it quite a bit. I can only imagine what this album would sound like with some thick ass bass on it.

Don't Look Back

John Lee Hooker - Don't Look Back (1997)

This album was a collaboration between John Lee Hooker and Van Morrison. Despite it being a little bit more laid back than I tend to take my blues, it won a Grammy in the Best Traditional Blues category in 1998. This is the perfect companion for your holiday travels. Drive safely, folks.

Boom Boom.

The Boogie Man

John Lee Hooker - The Boogie Man (2006)

While this particular compilation wasn't released until five years after his death, John Lee Hooker himself lived from 1917 to 2001. Known for his signature 'talking style' blues, Hooker created a sound all his own though very similar to the Delta Style blues. He was one of the more well known blues artists from the late 20th century, though his music was often considered a throwback to a time before time or meter mattered.

I'm sure to your average Hessian this doesn't mean jack shit, so if you like blues or are curious about the genre, check it out.

Hisingen Blues

Graveyard- Hisingen Blues

You probably know about Graveyard already. You probably also know that there are at least fifty bands named Graveyard operating on this planet at any given point in time, so for clarification's sake we're talking about the Swedish psychedelic/blues/stoner rock band. If The Black Keys were cooler, heavier, and Swedish, this is what it might sound like. Don't like that comparison? Tough titties, I got da blog and you ain't.

Looks like my downstairs neighbor gets to look forward to this one blaring through the ceiling on repeat for the next week or two.

TONIGHT A DEMON CAME INTO MY HEAD!
AAAAAAAAHGHHHGHGGHGHGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

EDIT 3/31/11 -- Apparently the label removed the file. I'll re-up soon.
